What it does
This system provides immediate, automatic fire suppression in the highest-risk area of most boats. When fire is detected, systems can shut down the engine, cut fuel, stop ventilation fans and flood the engine room with fire suppressant. This happens faster than crew could manually respond, critical because engine room fires can become catastrophic in minutes. The system works even if the crew is asleep, incapacitated or unaware of the fire. By acting immediately, it can suppress fires before they breach engine room boundaries or compromise escape routes.
Why it matters
Engine room fires are among the most dangerous marine emergencies. They involve fuel, oil, hot surfaces, and electrical systems: perfect fire conditions. The confined, typically unmanned engine room can allow fires to develop undetected. By the time the crew notices, the fire may be too developed for portable extinguishers.
